Ok, so planning on making a delta printer and I was wondering which setup is likely to have less play, the V-Slot or Open rail with Dual V wheels. And will there be a difference between the Delrin and Metal wheels that are on offer, looking for repeatability rather than accuracy :)

Just my 2 cents but I would say go with the v-groove and mini-v wheels. Metal wheels will wear your aluminum faster and you would require a lot less hardware and save time not dealing with complex designs. The printer will not wear that fast as there is really no load.
I have now tried both the open rail and v-groove, they both have their place Delrin has held up so far on my open rail, great product all around :)

Hi. I'm also interested in question above - what will be preferable V-Slot or OpenRail and also what kind of wheels (Delring vs steel) preferable to use during building small (250*100mm) precise XY table? The most important requirement to this build is precision, accuracy and repeatability. Also interesting question: what kind of driving mechanism preferable - belt or screw? Speed of positioning is not relevant.

    Hi RomanB,

The highest degree of precision would be obtained with quality ball-screws (and their associated angular contact thrust bearings) but the cost may be prohibitive for the build you are planning.

    Hi Tweakie

Yes, of course ball-screw usage will guarantee maximum of precision. But you are also right in case of cost of resulted system. So this variant is not acceptable.

My question was about parts that present in store, usage of which will maximize system's accuracy.
    I'll try to rephrase it.

Which pair of rail (V-Slot or OpenRail) and wheel (Dual-V Delrin or Dual-V steel or Solid-V Delrin) should be choosen for building described XY system (250*100mm)?

Driving mechanism will be choosed after decision of rail+wheel.

    Hi JustinTime

    Thanks for your input.
I also think that best precision/cost ratio would be in case of usage V-Slot+Solid-V Delrin wheels.

The goal of my project is about creating miniCNC router with 2.5 freedom axes based on Mini Drilling Machine purchased locally (I can post link to eBay store for this Mini Drilling Machine). Main responsibility of resulted system is drilling holes on PCB for my DIY projects.
