    Hi!!

I´m Carlos from Portugal, i was a owner of a Shapeoko 2 CNC but i sell it because i´m going to work to another country in France, now i want something more strong where i can use to machining Aluminium and plywood, i´m looking for something like 1000mm/1000mm in x/y but i would like a great accuracy. So i´m looking in openBuilds:), i planning to design my own CNC based in the others one you have here.

I have some ideias to share with you and discuss:

    - Controller using GRBL or Tinyg because i want to use chilipeppr.
    - All motors Nema 23
    - Z axis 250mm with new C-beam with 8mm acme leadscrew

    - for X and dual Y: i´m not sure in what to do, if i go to timing belt like i have in my shapeoko or if i use rack&pinion to get more rigidity but i want to keep good accuracy?what is your opinion?
This is my first doubts i have before starting my design.

    Welcome
Congrats on the new job and the move. Ill be visiting Paris in a few months.
Avoid belts if you have the budget.
Hytechs rack and pinion F-117 OX build is a good start.

Ok thanks Joe i will take a look, what is the pro of using rack and pinion instead of belt?

No tinkering with tension, snapped belts, stretching, skipped teeth.. Belt system is low cost, easier to install, lightweight, and compact compared to rnp.
rnp is rugged, more complex to install, costly, heavier, and requires more room.

These are off the top of my head. Im sure someone else can expand on these.

I like the F-117 OX build very much, with my shapeoko i have an accuracy like 0.05mm, do you think i can have the same or better with a solution like this? sorry for this question but is my first cnc i will build from scratch and i want to be sure about all the option i have.

For the Z axis i think a great idea the C-Beam it look like very strong.

I´m looking for the spare parts of openbuild for Fusion 360 but i can´t find anywhere:(

I´m thinking using two plates for the motors in Y inside and outside to get more rigidity also with this solution i can use more v-wheels.

So after looking in others designes i decide to start with acme lead screws in all axes, im not sure yet what kind of structure i will use.
