So I'm looking to build a rolling tool rack, of sorts. Rolling being the key part.

I see the casters and plates that have been used on the Openbuilds tables. those work on the 40x40 profile. For my rolling rack, the base was going to be something more like 20x40, on edge, mitered for a square or rectangular base. meaning there is only a 20mm profile edge to the ground.

I'm curious what others may have done for casters or rolling wheels in their builds as I explore this idea. Sure I could mount the rail to a piece of plywood an then screen in casters, but I'm trying to make this with only rails. Any inspiration for products or what you did to attach casters to V-Slot or even make your own aluminum plates I'd love to learn about.

    Thank you.

If you live in the States, than you are familiar with Harbor Freight. The have a moving dolly for sale every so often for about $10. I bought a few of them and take the casters off of them and mount them on my stands that I want movable. They have 4 mounting holes. You can mount them securely with only 3 bolts.

Oh yeah! I forget about Harbor Freight, the variety of items, the good deals, and the near infinite possibilities for hacking.

That being said, I'm curious how/if you are attaching the casters to the V-Slot. Maybe just M5 bolts and nuts? I suspect your post was in general attaching casters.

Yeah, it was a general attachment but in your case you can use T-nuts and bolts. Three will suffice.

If I understand the first post correctly, the mitred ends will make connecting three holes difficult. Is the mitres merely for looks? If so, you can 3d print some end caps to make it look better.

Good thought! The miter ends were for looks. With the available hardware, it seems a butt joint is better or more preferred. I was looking at the joining plates and wondered what there isn't more of a L shape plate or say a 2x8 hole plate for working with 40x40 profiles.

Oh man, I should have picked some of those up. Do you think you could put these side by side for a 40x40 profile?

Yes! Everything on the openbuilds system is based on a 20x20mm grid and can be "lego"ed together
