Use the Troubleshooting Tab in CONTROL to test.

Needs good electrical conductivity between magnet > whatever is in between > plate. Coated endmills may not be conductive, and the magnet usually makes better contact on the collet nut than the bit itself. Use the Troubleshooting tab to test - lift plate up to touch endmill while watching the Probe indicator on the Troubleshooting tab.

I would definitely want to see it in action with the retrofit!

Some nice shots of the machine parts setup and something being cut? This will surely provide some perspective to the community

Wondering the size of the steppers. I have Nema 23 that are 4.2 amp and I saw on another post that Peter said they would work with the Blackbox even though it says up to 3 amp motors. I had it up and running but the machine lost where it was at in the Y direction. Could this be a tuning thing or are the motors just to big.

Will work, but they won't perform as well as ours. High current rating, but mainly those tend to be High inductance (self braking EMF limits top speed) and sometimes also higher coil resistance (limits acceleration). Our motors were spec'ed for optimal electrical specs too

Can you expand a little please. Not work as well or like now I’m guessing missing steps? Do I adjust something so it doesn’t get lost?

I replied to your question about the 3rd party motors. They'll "work" but "as good as ours" because of the technical differences highlighted in my reply. They will be slower, weaker and accelerate more slowly (likely). But you already have them, so might be fine to compromise a little performance to avoid the purchase of new ones

I do appreciate the reply and I do understand that your motors would work better but like you say we already have those motors and for now if they would work then that's what we need to do. My real question is what parameters do I need to tweek in the software?

As its a custom machine, pretty much all of them - have a read through Grbl v1.1 Configuration

Start with a profile of one of our machines, and tweak from there, its a different drive system so steps per mm, acceleration, max rate, etc will all be different

Any updates on this build? I was curious to know how the Blackbox was doing with this large machine. I currently have two Gerber 4x4 routers that were gifted to me. They are no longer supported, so I gutted the electronics and will go a different route. I have a Mach3 license and some most of the components to fully change one out. All nema 34. But nema23 would be an easier route. I would like to know if I can go 4+ amps on the motors. the gantry, though aluminum, is quite heavy. Maybe I will start a build thread. I am currently running a Blackbox X32 on my Onefinity X-35 Woodworker.
