Can external stepper motors be used with the Blackbox? Something like TB6600.

No. And those are weaker than the on board drivers so not sure why you'd even want to.

I have been trying to get my Workbee 1510 to work from the time I got it a few weeks ago. I have replaced all the wheels, belts and upgraded the motors to Neam 23. Today I even upgraded it to lead screws. The entire time it has an Y-Axis issue. I have an Acorn CNC sitting around waiting to be installed on my CNC Plasma so I installed it on the Workbee and it works perfectly. It has to be the Blackbox that's the issue and I believe it is the onboard motor drivers.

Sounds like you have a bad Blackbox. The Blackbox should be able to move anything in the nema 23 range that you would be putting on such a system. As for whether you can hook up external drivers, actually there is a way but the TB6600s are definitely a step down from what's already inside. @Peter Van Der Walt is the guru on the Blackbox system so he would probably be best at helping you isolate the problem.

FYI Received replacement Blackbox and Workbee works now. The entire time the issue was the controller.

I spoke too soon. Worked fine for a couple of passed then Y2 stopped working again. My understanding is the Blackbox has a Y bridge issue so I am going to change to another controller type.

That does seem to suggest that the Blackbox is not the issue but maybe something else. What is this Y bridge issue you speak of?

Sorry, pass-through pins, not bridge. I can put my Acorn CNC on the machine and it works perfectly so it's not the machine.

The slave Y gets the same signals as the primary Y, and would not the cause of your issue

Leta rather go ahead and see whats different between your Acorn tests, and Blackbox

    - where is the motors from (if not ours, supply datasheet or model no)
    - what stepper drivers are you using with the Acorn
    - 100% sure the parameters are setup similarly (acceleration, max feedrates, etc)

I am still sceptical that the issue is controller, as your pictures in your other thread looks way too much like mechanical backlash

Did you remember to set the current?
Red exclamation mark on? If not driver did not stop (check beyond that, intermittent loose motor wiring rather)

I changed the machine to lead screws with the two blocks on both side so backlash shouldn't be an issue. The motors are Stepperonline Nema 23 model#3-23HS30-2804S. I am using TB6600 steppers with the Acorn.

Glad to see your up and running @Hellsbellsidaho seems like there were a lot of things at play here that seemed to compound the situation, but the main thing is you were able to work though them and get your machine working.
Props go out to everyone who helped

Can the BlackBox run external driver boards?
What I am thinking about is adding a second NEMA17 to the x and y axis on the PhlatPringer1. The BB has a 4th output that would work with Y but I know for at least the X axis I need a second NEMA17 motor. I might get away with only the one NEMA17 on the Z.
Is it possible to add a second driver board to the X axis? This would let me get the thing running to start my project as well as let me cut some other parts for the PP1 to make it more like the PP3. I have MANY NEMA17s and good driver boards that would be cheap to add rather than purchase 23s.
I think all i need to do is pick up a signal.

    Thanks Mark

Its got big enough drivers, and nema17s are small. Simply parallel both up on one driver

would not the 2 17s draw more than the capabilities of the board drivers?

No. 3.2A RMS drivers, typical nema17s are sweet around 1.2A.
