Good evening. Anyone using a spindle with half inch collet on a LEAD 1010? Should I want that or is it just complete overkill for hobby wood carving? thx, rink.
If you are going to buy a spindle buy one with an ER11 Collet. If you have the 1/2" spindle already, use it but use it mostly with a 1/4" collet or smaller. The machine will be much happier with the smaller collet and may even send you a Christmas card every year as long as you have it.
Overkill. Aluminum framed machines are not stiff enough to get full use of it. But if you feel you must you'll want to double up the X-axis similar to the OpenBuilds LEAD CNC Machine 1515 (60" x 60") as a 1/2" spindle will roll a single beam axis.
