Hey Jorge. This is the part I've been struggling with a little bit as well. As written somewhere above I don't have and won't any schematics. At post #10 you have some guide fot the wiring.

Regarding the connection to high voltage PSU.

    IMG_5742.JPG high_voltage_psu_pinout.png high_voltage_psu_description.png

G - is obvious, that is connected to ground of controller board. On the photo you can see that there are two black wires connected despite they are bridged inside of PSU. One is inboud from controller, the other is outbound for level shifter.
P - the blue one, is water protection switch. This one must be connected to ground so the laser operates. You can bridge it to ground directly at PSU. I have wire back to controller, so I can implement this feature in future. In config you can see that pin 2.11 is bound to ground permanently.
L - green wire, is laser control switch which accepts 3 volts. This one is connected to 2.12 as serves in Smoothieware as laser TTL pin. Because of this pin there is 5V<->3V level shifter between PSU and controller.
IN - white wire, is the pwm control of the laser and is connected to 1.23 pin of controler board. This one is 5V compliant and thus is not connedted through level shifter.
5V - red wire, this one is 5V rail provided by PSU and is used to supply level shifter's 5V side. (Do not mistake with red wire on controller board, DO NOT CONNECT those together, see below)

Yellow wire from controller board despite it is connected is not used - just a reserve.
Red wire from controller supplies 3V to level shifter. Red wires from controller board and PSU go to respective side of level shifter 3V (controller board) and 5V (PSU).

    Hi,
Very nice build you have here. I was wondering how is your experience thus far with the rasp pi and smoothieboard combo?
Did you implement smoothieware or GRBL-LPC firmware on the board?
This solution will work for me since I have a smoothieboard laying around and can't invest in a proper dsp controller.

    Looking forward for your response.

    Regards,

Hi, actually I’m pretty happy with this setup.

I run Smoothieware since I’m performimg only cutting and no “photo engraving”. I would go for GRBL-LPC if I would like to engrave photos however I that case I would probably choose another controller for this as well.

Thank you for your reply! I'm happy that this solution works for you.
Will go with that electronic solution!

    Have a great day.

a plain Grbl controller will outperform Smoothieware on Rasters (out of LaserWeb4)
Grbl is a little more widely supported too giving you more choice in software (lightburn, picengrave, laserweb, and many more)
    BlackBox Motion Control System would make wiring super easy and give you better performance (;

Will have a look at those, but I would prefer to use the stuff I have.
Out of curiosity, do you import to south africa openbuild stuff?
Visited the site allot in the past, but always scared of import duties.

Quite a bit for own use yeah, duties is about the same as from anywhere, (ZAR300 processing fee, 10-20% duties, 15% VAT - fedex JHB is great though always easy sailing)

I like this build. Now that your laser has been out in the wild for 2+ years, what would you change if you had the chance?

    Hi LukasK,
First off let me thank you not only for making this build available for us to admire, but also for taking the time to provide answers and encouragement. You really shine as a star of what the internet really should be about. Hopefully the praise won't make you think I am being unsincere, because I also was hoping you might be able to help me out by providing an .STL or .OBJ file format? I don't have sketchup available ot me (long long story) and was hoping to try and build this. If you can't, for whatever reason, that is fine and please don't think it makes your great efforts here any less appreciated. Thanks again!
