Hey all, I am having an issue with my XPro on my ACRO. I am having issues with it randomly shutting off the X-axis. You can see in this video around the 14 second mark the light goes dim. When this happens the x-axis no longer has power to it so it stops moving, and can be pushed very easily. Anyone know what could cause this?

I almost lost my entire laser(and house) because this stopped on a piece of foamboard and the foam caught fire. Help?

I had a new one do this but with the cloned y axis. For whatever reason it’s dead. You need a new one. How long have you had it?

That’s not old at all. Speak to the people you bought it from or Mike from Spark Concepts and see if you can get a replacement. My supplier -ooznest have replaced mine twice. Good luck! Like me you have learned to never leave a running machine alone. My laser cutter died and did tons of damage to itself in 10 minutes.

could be the current is set too high and it's shutting down the channel, and get a fan on the board, they need cooling.

You can run a fan off the fan header on the board

Odd that you have the situation within seconds... As others suggested, you may need to adjust the amps (those 'pots' on the controller). They need to be at the sweet spot for your stepper motors.

Regardless, the board needs some form of cooling - a fan works wonders. I used to have the tiny heatsinks with and without fans. The heat sinks didn't do much compared to just some nice air flow over the drivers.

If the drivers get too hot, they self protect and shut down, the steppers don't move and become easy to push around even if there is power to your machine.

If your steppers are running hot, the controller is likely feeding too much power ... or they are straining with load.

Never be too far from your machine when it's powered ... You never know when something will go wrong.

    Hi,
I'm new to the topic and I need help. What should I suggest when choosing a motor for this driver? Most stepper motors require 3V voltage and here the range is higher if I understand the driver's DRV8825 Stepper Motor Controller specification well.
Can I connect all kinds of these engines to this driver? http://ooznest.co.uk/image/data/products/Stepper-Motors/NEMA17-Datasheet.jpg

So all stepper motors whose coil consumption does not exceed 2.5A?

I've been running the NEMA 23 StepperOnline 23HS30-3006D for my X and Y since day one.

While my Z started with a NEMA 17, it was changed to a single shaft version of the above NEMA 23 (should of got the dual shaft, as an after thought). The NEMA 17 was just not able to handle my large router. NEMA 23 is not even breaking a sweat.

All running as bipolar, keeping them at 2.12 Amps per phase.

CNC xPro pots are, if I remember correctly (not near machine at this time), set at about ... 2/3rd (at most). Fan blows air on the controller to keep the drivers confortable, no heatsinks.

Quick update on this, threw a fan on top of the xpro and haven't had an issue since. Cheers!

    Hello all,

I just set up an Ooznest OX CNC that a friend of mind baught from you last year and I encounter some issues.
The first time that I connected a computer with Universal G-Code Sender installed (nightly v2.0) the machine did react to jog commands and moved the axes as commanded. But then, after playing around a little bit (and after some collisions making the steppers skip steps) and also changing the GRBLparameters to the suggested parameters from the manual, the motors don't want to move anymore.

When i give a command, the led's at the motor outputs on the xPro ectually all stop and the designated motor seems to "want" to move and makes a short sound, but it can't even make one step - it just falls back to its original position. Meanwhile the Universal Gcode Sender shows the movement of the axis which actually didn't take place.

What could cause this issue that the motores don't really move?

Another thing that I found is, that if I set in GRBL $1=255, then the xPro will remain in the 'state' as if it was busy with something (motor led's off) and wouln't react to any new commands given. Is that normal?

Thank you very much for your help!

Okay, I found the issue: With my board $4 needs to be set to 1 with my board.

Hi Beelzeblub, anything in your process change? I’ve had that happen in GRBL (UGS) when the g-code string was too long. Too many characters

no nothing changed in my process... sometimes i can cut out a huge file and no freezing and now sometimes after 15 mins it dies on me. tried different designs to cut and it happens randomly...
Can interference on wires be the cause of this? I'm starting to think that my ATX power supply is the culprit.

As Gray suggested, are the drivers over heating? I started out with DRV8825 drivers (same as the Xpro) and the problem you describe would happen to me when they would overheat during a longer job. I switched to the DQ542MA drivers and have not had it happen since switching.

I have an ATX power supply. I had it running my 3d printer (except for the heated bed) and it run flawlessly. I put some LED lights in my kitchen and used that power supply to run them and a short while it shut off. It did it repeatedly. I connected the lights to a different power supply and they run with no problem. Could be that your ATX has the same dislike to certain loads like mine does.

kinda weird... but i'm gonna rebuild the whole thing to a workbee with 100x70cm cut space and move my power supply and xpro beneath my back-draft table so i have zero interference.
i already build a box under the table with 4 120mm pc fans to have non-stop cooling on xpro and atx. together with some liquid cooling i had laying around from a pc build i did for someone.
    (kinda got carried away)

What do the LED's mean on the board? Mine seem to be random, varying between green, red or both.
The reason I ask is because I have just had a problem with my X axis just stopping mid movement and the LED going off. After a soft reset all works again for a while and then goes wrong again

Tony, Probably overheat protection.. could try lower the current pot a hair on X. Or get more airflow over the board.
I would think the LED's are signal indicators.. maybe somebody else knows.
Make sure to check the troubleshooting guide
    cheers

The LED's go red when the stepper is rotating in one direction and green when rotating in the other direction.

I'm just getting started with my first Xpro, but have a couple questions and a comment. First, my motor leds are lighted red while the machine is at idle - files loaded or not. They only flash green when that axis is being moved. Is this correct or should there be no leds on until the stepper is energized?

Hey Stargeezer, the person that posted that picture has not been on her for the last 12 weeks. So, not sure how soon he will get back to you. This is similar if you want to check it out. Box xPro V3 by jopoma

Thanks a lot. I normally check those dates but just didn't this time. Too excited by the "find" I guess.

The link you offered is a perfect box for my xpro.

    hi all

Just after a bit of advice, I got my new Xpro V4 last week and just like to say I’m well impressed. After switching up from the Arduino Uno to this, I can’t believe how much time, money and effort I have wasted. The V4 makes things so simple and compact.

Anyways, just a couple of queries I need help with.

    1) I’m us 24 volt psu so I presume the fan header on this board needs a 24 volt fan?

    2) on the Arduino. The estop not only halter the power but also paused the gcode. Is this the same with the xpro, I’ve tried to nderstand the wiring diagrams (not my forte) but it appears as though this just cuts power.

    3) I’d also like to hook up my 24v spindle ER11 500W CNC Brushless Spindle Motor Driver Speed Controller For Engraving 6930402198170 | eBay to the board so I have to put as little effort into my projects as possible (the more automated, the more I can focus on other parts like design) but I’m not sure how this can be done. This spindle is very similar to the spindles that use VFDs but I’ve no idea how to integrate this with the Xpro board. Can anyone help me with this?

Marks in anticipation of any help

    Rob
