Hi everyone. I new here, I hope to be able to do this mod to my Cube 3 soon.

I just have one question, an I tried to read through the entire post, but did not see the answer to my question. I may have over looked it, which is possible. My apologies if I did. So My question is....

"How low does the filament cart percentage have to be to be able to use safely?"

I have two right now one is at 23% an the other 39%ish.

    Hi, welcome to Openbuilds...

There is no FIXED quantity check that the Firmware does. That's why you couldn't find an answer to your
    question.
What happens when you request a print, the firmware calculates (guess-a-mates) how much filament is needed
to print the file, then checks the remaining filament. If enough remains, it begins printing without complaining.
If less remains you receive a message warning you, not enough filament remains. I think you can over-ride the warning and continue with the print.
I seem to recall somewhere, someone saying if it is around 4% you are SOL..Don't hold me to that.
Download the patch v1.0 ONLY and apply it. Also, the "ReKindle" and ReCube (search the web) are available to reset the count.

Have previously Hacked my Cubepro and worked fine but had problem and part of 3D Systems solution was to update the firmware to V2.02 and a new Extruder.

Tries to hack this but not the software would not work. So my solution was to reinstall the older firmware but this came back each time with an error whilst trying to update on the cubepro via USB
Is there a solution or am I wasting my time and now back to costly cartridges?. Any help appreciated

Is there a way to edit the firmware so it would skip the "Apply glue" prompt?

Alright guys, I have an extruder mod to replace the proprietary nozzles.

First, you need a M6 tap, a slightly smaller than M6 drill bit, M6 threaded 0.4mm nozzles, and M6 threaded throat tubes.

    nozzles.jpg

    First, remove the old nozzles.

Next, drill straight down into your heating block.

Then tap the top and bottom of the block with the M6 tap.

Last, screw in your new nozzle and throat tube.

I've made several prints with this setup now, and the quality is better than I've ever gotten.

For what it's worth, i also upgraded the bowden tubes and fittings to reduce feeding issues.

Any way we're going to get v1.11 back so that I can print other cartridges on my cubepro trio?

This is good news for us Ekocycle owners, buddybu!

But, when I searched my "ekocycle V1.05.ar" file with HexEdit, I could not find either of the two hex strings you mentioned (122216 & 142215) in the file.

Am I looking at the wrong file?
    ================ EDIT ====================
Found my error: I was searching for hex strings, but in fact they are ascii strings.

I am anxious to try my modified firmware - as soon as I get a power supply for the ekocycle!

Thanks In Advance for this, buddybu!

Yay - I received my power supply...

    (from here: 24 Volt Adapter Power Supply, 5A, Megmeet | MPJA.COM )

... and the "manual patch" per buddybu's instructions is working in my Ekocycle Cube!

A big Thank You to the original developers (donation is on the way) and to buddybu!

Ok... Can someone tell me how to donate to the developers of the "don't write to the cartridge chip" patch?
When I try to donate using the Paypal link in the original post, it tells me I must go to eychei's web page to donate.
I don't know where that is!

    Hi all

Now I have updated my cubePro with the pathed 2.00 firmware.

    I have one question:
Is it necessary for the cartridge to contain enough filament to print?
I inserted a cartridge containing 5% left and the printet told my that there wasn't enough filament left??

My understanding is that the printer will offer to continue, even though it thinks there is not enough filament. Is there a "go ahead and print anyway" option/checkmark on the screen? If so, just hit the checkmark, and it should contiue.

    Hey JT3D

Nope not of what I could see.

I just replaced the 5% cartridge with a 67% cartridge and now it prints without any down-counting... So, it seems to work fine.

For what it's worth, Søren - if you look back at Post #454, Geezer 70 mentions the override, but says there may be a lower threshhold for that to work. 5% must be below the cutoff.
Time to "ReCube" the chip! ;o)

I Converted my Ekocycle to a Cube 3!!

Just for fun, I decided to try forcing the Eko to load the Cube 3 1.14B firmware, using the 'change filename and interrupt the firmware load' procedure that has been used to revert to earlier versions.

    It worked!!

    Advantages:
    - Auto Level and Z-gap setting are about 10x faster than before
    - Auto Level seems to be more consistent (it would sometimes vary wildly on the Eko)
    - Name, serial # and Wifi connection stayed the same
    - Can load stock or patched Cube3 firmware

    Disadvantages:
    - Now it will not recognize my Ekocycle cartridges!
    - I don't have any Cube3 cartridges...

Interestingly, I had one Eko cartridge which the Eko would not recognize - after going through the Eko's Change Cartridge process, it would show status"Not Installed". But when I tried installing that one on the Cube 3 firmware, it's status showed "PLA100%", and after purging a time or two "PLA 98%". However, when I then try to print something, it throws a message "PLA required - change cartridge", even though the status says it is PLA.

The Cube3 .cube3 file shows a material code "86", whilst the Ekocycle .cube3 file shows "300". So I think if I could change the material in the Cube3 file to "300" to match what's in the cartridge chip, it might accept the cartridge. But if I just edit the value in the file, the printer says "Invalid file". I think I would also need to correct the <build_crc32> checksum value.

Does anyone know how the <build_crc32> checksum in a .cube3 file is calculated??

Well, I tried this on an Ekocycle that had V1.05 on it with modified V1.05, updated via flash drive. Now I have an Ekocycle that only flashes the backlight on the LCD.

Does anyone know what this means? Any idea how to restore it to the previous working version?

Do you mean the LCD will not respond to touch and does not show any menu functions?
Will the printer respond to the power button in any way? I.e., power on/off, change the display, etc?

After the update, when the unit started back up, all that was happening was the backlight flashing. Pulling the plug and reapplying power makes it go off. Pushing the button makes it power up, back to the backlight flashing state.

I've tried combinations of power-up with holding button, holding on touch screen and nothing seems to bring it out of that state. Also, I tried with a flash drive plugged in and the stock V1.05 on it.

Also, I tried plugging in the USB connection to a PC. Windows didn't see it as being on the bus.

Any idea if I could extract the .hex from the original fimrware .ar file and flash it on the microcontroller?

    Thank you!

Having just disassembled it and removed the circuit board, I can follow the discussion much better. I was surprised that they all have and SD card mounted on the board.

Update: Successfully returned display to life by replacing Image695.hex on the SD card with the file that was contained within the original V1.05 upgrade .ar file.

Since I have the board out of the unit right now, I'm going to add the debug header to it for future use and revisit the problem of working hacked firmware on the Ekocycle later.
