    If you picked up our new LED Light Ring, we'd love to see some pics of it in use.

    I'll start ;->

    Used mine as a camera light. Video's looking good shot with this! Nice warm front-fill! IMG_20170804_082901-01.jpeg

    Funny enough, my very first home brew smd pcb was a camera ring light. I'm soooo glad I read this post on my first visit here. I might just add one of these to my new OX that should be arriving in about 3 weeks. There is no such thing as too much light on a workpiece.

    I'm curious I noticed with the led ring the pcb gets pretty warm. Are the pcb / parts safe to operate at 24v without some form of heat sinking - I noticed the mill mount has the back of the pcb up against the router mount which I imagine can help dissipate the heat.

    Planning to make a modification to my printer with it. Don't want to fry anything ( well, not intentionally! )

    LEDs do "warm" up a little, they were designed for use on 24v (6 elements in series). The difference is between warm, and too hot. I run mine (as shown above) as light ring around my camera (ie in totally free air, no heatsinking behind it). In a 3D printer you'll probably be fine too, since there is some air moving from the heatbreak cooling fan, convection from the heatbed, etc. You'll be fine!

    You can even wire up leds to 220v AC main with rectification... as long as there are enough of them. I have some Snowflake lights like that. Like these... you have to take care as the board strips are essentially live. 24W 5730SMD LED Ceiling Lamp Octopus Fixtures Round Light Home Lamp IP43 220V x1 | eBay

    Not quite something we'd recommend you do. Its designed for 24v since most of us already have a handy 24v psu on our xpro/Smoothie/etc. Its not properly isolated, or mains rated. The above recommendation is dangerous and should not be attempted

    LOL... wasn’t suggesting you do... I was pointing out that it IS safe to connect LEDs to high voltages without requiring heat sinks.

    Also I did point out that it was dangerous with the fact that the boards are live in that product.

    Please don’t put words in my mouth that were never there. I never suggested connecting mains voltage to that ring module.

    Had to post that in case someone less familiar stumbles on this thread someday and interprets it as advice (;

    Oh okay. Fair enough. It’s why I did say it’s dangerous as it’s live too... and this is something ANYONE can buy on eBay... but it IS safe if it’s isolated. Just look at some of the crazy stuff Nikola Tesla did.
