Did a search but couldn't find the answer, so I apologize if this has been asked and answered a zillion times. Here goes.

I primarily need a non-steel double V wheel that can carry reasonable loads (within its spec'd limits) but doesn't develop flat spots after months of being stationary under said load.

I don't need critical accuracy at any time, except for no flat spots - ever.

Delrin or polycarbonate? Or something else (besides metal)?

Speaking of poly double V wheels, while OpenBuilds doesn't seem to currently list them for sale, they do have a beautiful picture of one in their 'wheels' section of the parts store web site, so I'm assuming they're somehow available. I emailed OB a few days ago asking about their availability but haven't heard back.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

The poly wheels are better for not getting flat spots but the poly V-wheels were found to have problems with brittle failure under extreme usage. If your loads and usage will be on the light side and you want to give them a try, they are listed as being in stock at a couple of the Openbuilds distributors.

Thanks for the great reply, Rick! Looks like the poly double V wheels might not be the answer if they're prone to shattering under heavy loads. Might have to use the steel wheels and rethink our track - we were going to incorporate the track into our extrusion die and use poly wheels to reduce wear on the (non-replaceable) track. Might have to re-spec the extrusion die to allow for a small, replaceable track and use the steel wheels.

    Thanks again!

Sorry for jumping in on this late, but I am buying wheels right now and I am trying to decide on delrin or metal wheels.

What are the Pro's and Con's of the metal wheels?

Metal wheels will wear down aluminum track and thus must be used with something more durable. Truly the question is how do you plan to use them and if they are really necessary.

As with the other fellow I was thinking of durability and stability in the gantry tracking.
