I second the part about Homann Design. Not only is that man a true gentleman, he is also full of essential knowledge and gives excellent support and help. Guys like him are a rare breed and should be supported at all times! I've got my Gecko 540 and some other stuff from him.

So, I put a plasma cutter on my Buffalo to give it a try. No fancy stuff THC or automatic start and stop. Just start g-code and put a clamp on the torch button to activate. It's a trial setup to see if this works plain like this (no EMI etc.) or if I need to do more shielding.

Anyone with ideas about how to easily generate some useful g-code for plasma CNC? The Mach side is no problem, just looking for something like Sheetcam but than for free, of course. ;-)

    Thanks for future suggestions/solutions.

The Suckit design is fantasitc.. I should have bought one from the campaign - That's exactly the next item to build - now that cnc is cutting its a dusty mess in the shop! Need to adapt that concept to the Ox...

Hi! thank you for have create this amazing project! i have a question about the OX Plate, i have download the dxf file:

    V-Slot OX_Build_81_DXF Plates.dxf

To make it i have to contact some hardware store in my town (in italy) that have the laser cut, what is the right material to make it? and the right thickness? I have also another question, the dxf file have the right size? or i have to scale it for this purpose?

    Thanks :)

Hi, i wanna build this amazing OX CNC, and currently I am making some research of what I have to buy before start this amazing project :D And I arrived to the electronics parts, and also the software to use.
For example i have seen that the Easel of Invetables is free and seems very powerful, you suggest to use it with the OX CNC? if yes what type of electronics i have to buy? Some shield for the arduino, or a single board? i'm looking around in the web to search something affordable, and i have see this:

4x A4988 Stepper Motor Driver with Heat Sink + CNC Shield Expansion Board for Arduino V3 Engraver New-in Other Electronic Components from Electronic Components & Supplies on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group

or also this shield for the arduino:

    gShield v5

or there is something i think without the arduino, like this:

TB6560 Stepper Driver Board 3 Axis Integrated Breakout Board DC12 ~ 36V Input Full /2/4/8/16 step 16 Segments-in Motor Driver from Industry & Business on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group

    what you suggest me?

I am very inexperienced, i have just started thanks!

If you want to go the arduino way, go for the DRV8825 instead, they can handle bigger steppers.

I suggest you the TB6600 if you want to go the Toshiba way :) A lot of people had problems with the 6560.
Fot this option, you'll need Mach3 or an equivalent and a computer with a parallel port, but they are easier to use.

Thanks for your reply, but with Arduino and the gShield v5 i don't need any DRV8825, am I wrong?

And with Arduino and the gShield v5 i can use easel software right, and also other software?

    why you suggest that option?

My Stepper will be 3xNema 23 and 1xNema 17, like the original OX CNC build, and also I think Shapeoko or x-carve right?

Sorry for that, I taught you meant CNC shield, which is different.

    I don't know easel.

Ok thanks anyway, i have also one more question, it's possible to join two V-Slot 2040 to get one V-Slot 2080?

While it is technically possible, it will be way better and stronger to use a 2080

It's possible to build in 750x750 size? or is better to build it in 750x500 as it's written in the parts list?

    Using 3xNema 23 and 1xNema 17

I am using Easel, Fusion 360 and V-Carve Pro with my recent OX build. I started learning Fusion 360 for 3D printing and planned to use it for CNC work. The learning curve is fairly steep, but it is very powerful once you get the hang of it. Easel is a great free tool. You can create simple projects fairly quickly, but it doesn't have a broad range of features. You can create and account and try it out without a machine. Ultimately, I bought V-Carve PRO to do the types of carvings I wanted. It's expensive, but the easiest way to do signs and 2.5D carvings, IMHO.
Also, I use the tinyG on my OX with Nema 23s X&Y and Nema 17 from the Openbuilds store.

Thank you very much for your answer, tinyG is better than arduino+gShield v5?

750 is ok, just depends on what you plan on cutting when you get it done. Or I guess I should say how aggressive you plan on cutting without getting flex....

Not sure it is better, just different. I don't have experience with the gShield.

The Wiki's are here: TinyG and G2.

Thanks for all the answer, i am try to understand what are the components i need, looking at the parts list and the Mark Carew Build Video on YouTube, but i can't understand what are the screws i need to build it.
1)Example 1: in the video i see Mark use the M5x10mm but in the parts list there aren't.
2)Example 2: the screws for set the V-Wheel for the Z Axis Plate, Mark in the video don't tell what type of screw use.

Anyone can help me and tell me what are the correct screws i need to build it?

I'm building a machine for a specific purpose and it is very light duty, although will need to be very repetitive over a long time so it needs to be rugged as well.
I have been pricing out the OX and am wondering what your opinions are with belt drive vs C-Beam threaded rod bundle?
One point I assume is the belt drive can move much faster.

    Thanks for any view points.

I'm running belts at 5000mm / min with no issues, but will be rebuilding to move over to C Beam and Leadscrews (Ballscrews when i can afford it!) as i need more acuracy for some upcoming projects.

I'll be sacrificing some speed, but needs must.

    Hi,

I bought a OX CNC kit on ooznest 6 month ago. I use Fusion 360 for create the model then i send the GCODE to "Universale Gcode Sender".
My controller is a CNC XPRo V2.

I have a lot of issues and dont succeed to operate correctly.
I mean I encounter a lot of collisions. Even with exactly the same Gcode, one time I got colision and another time I dont.
    I cut on MDF 16. Feedrate : 1500 mm/min StepDown : 1,5 mm Router bit 8mm

When i check my GCode with "Universale Gcode Sender" by doing the $C i got some error at the begining but when i recheck i dont get the same errors. I'm quite disapointed by this.

Let you know that i dont think that the problem come from the CNC and that, 6 month ago, i was a total newbie. Issue very probably come from my lack of experience.

I dont know if my set up is correct (fusion 360, Universal Gcode sender, CNC XproV2). Do somebody use the same set up successfully ?
Do someone can share a better set up ?

Also, i would be very grateful if someomone would accept to share a functionnal Gcode then i can test it and see if the problem come from my Gcode. (i mean any 2.5 Gcode that works)

As attachment field i put the G Code i use.

Any help would be very appreciated ! It weeks i search and i begin to get crazy

    Thanks you very much !

    Hello,

Just bought my Tall OX Plates from Chris the day before yesterday and this is my first post in here. So... of course I am going to post a newb question.
Is there a OX primer on motors/power supply and what sizes to buy based on size of the OX you are building?

I am a little confused on the motors because they list a voltage spread. Is it a case of just matching the voltage to your driver and controller? Or is it better to run the motors at the highest rated voltage and then find the motor driver/controller that will then work with that?

    Thanks,

Where are frs purchasing their bits from? I'm looking for up/down and compression bits. The smaller the better for more precise cuts.
