Anyone else been thinking or actually doing molds for a home plastic injection molding ?

Making signs and such is interesting. In looking to make molds for thermoforming shells I bumped into this : Home Plastic Injection Molding (which also got me to some free software posted earlier today in the resources).

How about using the C-Beam plate maker to make molds for home made plastic injections. Apparently, one can use other plastics than the HDPE discussed earlier. Make your own poker chips ? How about coasters ? Special plastic inlays maybe ? Injection mold those endcaps and track tensioners ? Possibilities are endless and, for at least some items much quicker (and solid) than 3D printing. Each tool has its place / purpose ...

This hobby is simply getting better and better as I move up the learning curve.

I just can't wait for retirement and I will have to take over the garage ... or start looking for a house with lots more garage space. Wait... if people can live in tiny houses, I might be able to squeeze a few more machines inside 'my" tiny garage ! There might just not be room for the wife's car... maybe she should look at getting smaller car, just in case, eh ?

One of the reasons I am building my cnc is for mold making. I have looked into home injection molding, but not real seriously yet. I need to finish this build first.

I started myOX wanting to do molds/forms for thermoforming shells for model car/trucks. I got side tracked into doing a few signs, game boards, etc. But I'll get back on track ... eventually.

The C-Beam "plate maker" is going to be perfect for milling molds for a home plastic injection setup. I think I will be side tracked once again. ;)
