limit switch shows triggered in the troubleshooting panel even with the z axis limit switch unplugged at the blackbox, the axis still moves in both directions and wont stop when actually activating the switch. any help would be grateful. on a side note just prior to this happening the x32 froze up and i pushed the reset button on unit when it booted back up all settings had returned to factory i assume, all axis speeds were 50 acceleration was 10 hard limits disabled and so on.

That is indicative of a short circuit in wiring. Review all wiring and report back on what you find. A V+ to GND short can cause brownout that wipes EEPROM

i mis spoke in 1st post, z axis limit switch wont trigger even when activated, it is the x axis that stays triggered but doesn't affect operation of that axis, i unplugged all 3 limit switches and on the trouble shooting screen it shows x and y triggered and z off, all limits were operating normal prior to blackbox freezing up, i have the unit set up with hard limits enabled because despite my best efforts i have been unable to get soft limits programmed despite reading every thread and grbl wiki information i can find, i have essentially ran out of talent on my end.

I have disconnected everything but the axis cables from the blackbox, vfd is powered down, still showing the state as descrided above.

In terms of Grbl Settings did you load a backup, fresh machine profile from the dropdown menu, or settings manually (ideally use clean profile in case your custom settings has something incorrect)

Test with one of our default profiles (select machine dropdown) to eliminate settings

I cannot find any known short in the wiring, all limit switches have been unplugged from the black box, the only thing plugged into the black box are the 4 axis plugs, power supply, and USB cable. I didn't back up in grbl, that's on me.

I have crossed my pain threshold with this blackbox, I am more interested in actually making projects than being a gcode expert, time to find an interface that is more suited to that end.

pity, could be as simple as inverting the sense of the switch, the box caters for both normally closed and normally open switches, but they must all be wired the same way.
