Good morning, everyone. I’m trying to think through my spoil board design. Couple questions: 1. Based on the LEAD 1515 build video and specs, it looks like the spoil board pieces have a final overall width in the X dimension of about 49 inches (3 x 16”, + couple spaces). The travel (work) spec for the x-axis is 46”. Therefore, when surfacing the spoil board, I will not be able to surface out to the edges, but will end up with an unsurfaced strip of about 1.5 inches on each side. Have I understood that correctly? 2. I'd like to be able to replace the spoil board without lifting the machine to access it from under the base. I'm thinking I could "sister" some wood strips to the sides of the v2040 base pieces, using L-brackets, then screw the spoil board into those wood strips from above. A 3/4 inch spoil board should allow me to countersink the screws to a safe depth. I could possibly post a diagram, if needed. Thx, rink.
Correct: leave the edge giving you a nice precise edge to line up stock before clamping. Nice reference edge as its exactly in line with the axes movements Knock it down with regular woodworking tools (sander, planer, etc) install a smaller sacraficial 1/4" MDF on top - saves having to replace the more expensive spoilboard later on too - just wear out the 1/4" layer. This piece can be made to suit the actual working area Another advantage of the smaller sacrificial layer

Good morning. Reading your post again. The video I mentioned in my original post was the build video on the OpenBuilds YouTube channel. It’s very long, I watched it several times straight through, then followed it segment-by-segment during my build. I did not use their spoil board design. Also, I have dredged up the photos from my own build last year. It illustrates very well how I set up my spoil board. I would do it slightly differently (simpler) today. I’ve used several clamping approaches and this one has evolved to be the best and simplest for me. Anyway, let me know if you want some photos of my spoil board design, or have any other questions.
