Hello all, I recently found a stl file on the net that has some text on it. Now I want to delete the existing one and replace it with another text. Is this possible and if so how should I do it. Please explain step by step for this ''old'' man. Sincerely Bert Klappe
If it is a flat face, then you could possibly do it with Fusion 360. If it is a round or curved object, it becomes much more difficult, but not impossible. What is the file? For round items I have found modeling the round portion with the text myself, then joining that round body to the rest of the model using Meshmixer to be the easiest.
Hello Graig en Christian, Here is one of the examples in question. Sometimes the text is on a flat part, but also often on a curved surface. I've tried a few things myself, but in this case I'm too inexperienced. If you could explain to me step by step what to do to replace the text with my own using this example, I would be very happy about that. Thank you in advance.
Generically my advice on this kind of thing would be: The time spent trying to modify a non-source file (STLs are just an Output - not meant to be editable like the original CAD file would have been) is better spent learning to model whatever you need from scratch Its faster, safer and all round better to have full control over your files.
Hallo Peter, I agree that making such a stl file yourself is of course the best and I have done that a few times. However, the learning curve is not easy. It takes a lot of time to teach an old dog a new trick. I hope one day to get to the level of the works I have seen on the internet. I can not open that file. It is not an stl file, but a .crv3d which is for Aspire. I do not have that software.
Hello all, I've tried to compress the file but it still leaves a 150MB file that I can't send because it's too big. What I can do is send a jpg of the file. I hope you can help me a little more then. It concerns the text on the horseshoe that I want to replace with my own text.
That will be a tough one unless you have the original CAD file. I am not familiar with any programs that will easily allow you to remove that text from a curved surface and add your own. But, maybe others have an idea how to do it.

I do have the stl file but how I can remove the existing text and replace it with my own that remains a challenge. Do you know who authored the file. You'd need the original CAD file (stl is an output format, not editable. Whatever the original author used to CAD it has a proper CAD file and that's what you need
