I am planning on using shielded cable for my stepper motors, but I don't see a point on the Blackbox controller for grounding the shielding. From my understanding, shielded cable is not very effective unless it's grounded.

Is there an area on the controller where I can ground the shielding?

    Thanks!

Not grounded... Earthed. In a star config, to a solid earth spike or copper pipe into the earth outside or into the shop floor, through the slab

    Thanks for the reply
Thanks for the reply. I had seen in a build video that the shielding was being earthed through the ground on the controller (demon controller). I don't have an earth near my garage.

Would I be better off using non-shielded cable for the stepper motors and limit switches, and only shielding the motor cable to the vfd?

See docs:blackbox:faq-emi [OpenBuilds Documentation] and in particular the extra link at the bottom - goldmine of into there

basically, shield the VFD/Spindle rather than trying to protect everything else from it.
