Congratulations on completing your machine build @lumber60 ! Your best bet at thins time would be to jump right in to the awesome resources that is OpenBuilds forum and talk to others about your build. A good thread to strike up a conversion maybe related to your questions may be in the software section. https://openbuilds.com/forums/#software.23

    Hey there Max,
The Z axis is one of the things I liked about yours. At least it is stable. To make it easier to level, could one use a BL touch and 3 separate motors??

Hello there Carl, With what you have learned about 3D printer builds do you have any suggestions about what is a better design? I liked your Cbot design. I was thinking you may have progressed since that build.

Hi Kyo, A quick question. When I click on the $H, the Z will move up to the sensor, stop, back off, slowly move towards the switch until it trips and then backs off 3mm. then the X and Y axis's do the same , except they both will only stop at the sensors and back off, then stop. They don't come back to the sensors so I have to run the $H again to make that happen? Any ideas.

    Hello Mark,

I had XPRO V3 working fine, until this afternoon. I was configuring homing settings and after making necessary changes to grbl config.h file and compiled it in Arduino, I was flushing the .hex file to my XPRO board, when suddenly all the light on the board turned off and I can only see the 5V green LED, and flickering green LED on the USB port on the board.

Turned all powers off and reconnect all cables and tried to power on the board, but there is only the 5V green LED, this time this is from 24V reaching the board. Other than that no LED of the motors is on, lifeless. Universal GCode sender, connects to the port but grbl information is not replied.

I am posting this to others too, as I am a bit panicking.

      Help, please.

If you have flashed directly through the ISP port before you will have to do that again because that will overwrite the bootloader that allows USB port flashing.

The critical thing when flashing a /hex/ are the fuse settings, getting those wrong even a little bit can make it freeze up. Plenty of web sites detailing how to unbrick an Atmega328p so just Google it.

      Dear David,

I have tried to flash it through USB using XLoader, and the 5V LED light on and USB LED flickers as it would when flashing. But, XLoader says "Uploading", but this never stops. Flickering USB LED for long minutes and minutes, very strangely.

I will google the unbricking and let you know here the result.

      Thank you.

Hey Kyo, do you know if there is a proper way to set the anti-backlash nuts. They do come with an adjustable set screw so I searched the forums and didn't find any info, I'm at that point where I'm hoping this is the last time I take everything apart, and if there is some thing I should address with the nut blocks now would be an opportune time to take care of it. Thanks again...

Oops, I misread your post and saw nema 34 as nema 23. Do you think the Canare Star Quad will handle the high-torque 23's?
  24. CharlieShimota

Oh yeah! the cable I have is also Canare, L-4E6S star quad. I got it form Redco.com for .50/ft and they have a nice color selection. Now you've got me worried because I'm using the high-torque nema's also. Is there a way to figure the actual wire gauge of stranded wire and how would I find the current rating for this cable? Thanks
    1. Kyo
      Kyo
That is a great price on the cable. You can measure the conductor ( a single wire without pvc sheath ) to discover the awg size. Mine measured in a range of 0.58mm - 0.66mm depending on how tight I had my calipers. That is roughly 23 / 22awg. Here is a chart you can use to look up awg sizing and amp rating. The Openbuilds HT 23 motors are 3amp motors. https://www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm

Hey Kyo, I was wondering if you have ever heard of anyone using microphone cable for the steppers and limit switches, I have some left over after making some speaker cables. It's a 4 conductor stranded 21 gauge wire with braided shielding and the manufacturer claims it's ideal for bending (as in coiling up mic cables). I have a photo but can't find a way to upload it in this post.

Yeah, I just ordered some Canare Star Quad http://amzn.to/2Brp5dY to use on a machine I am building. It was sold as 21awg but measures closer to a 22-23awg. Should be fine for my limits and x,y stepper but will be pushing it on the 6A nema 34 I have :) The high strand count is a plus for our use. Keep in mind the current rating of the cable.

    Hi Mark,

So I am a senior in college doing mechanical engineering. For one of your projects, I was thinking of using your project "v-slot linear actuator". I just had one question but the accuracy of the system. How accurate do you think we would be able to control the linear position of the trolley on the linear rail?

      Hello Smfuller, welcome to OpenBuilds!
Sure I would say it really depends on if you mainly want to do 2D cut out s and pocketing or full on 3D relief type carvings. Have a look at Vectics products and compare - http://www.vectric.com/products/compare.html
