      Hello Smfuller, welcome to OpenBuilds!
Sure I would say it really depends on if you mainly want to do 2D cut out s and pocketing or full on 3D relief type carvings. Have a look at Vectics products and compare - http://www.vectric.com/products/compare.html

Hi Mary, I just received an order from Openbuilds and was disappointed to find that the 45mm cap screws were m3's. I was planning on using them to mount my steppers but already have m5 threads cut. That's my bad, I didn't look carefully when I placed the order, just wondering if the cap screws are even available in m5?

Ok, thanks. I still wonder why the m3 cap screws are in with the list you sent?

Hi Marc, wow thanks for the comment this is the first time I've logged in to the forum in a long time I can't remember the actual spec of the material now and unlikely to get any more cut unless there is enough people wanting them

New to the forum. Working on a sphinx now. I have noticed that when using the extreme v wheels and mini v wheels with the c beam extrusion I have to use 2 1mm spacers on the mini v wheels to maintain alignment with the v grooves. The full size wheels on the out side of the c beam only need 1 1mm spacer while the inner mini v wheels need 2 1mm spacers along with the 6mm spacers. Any ideas as to why?

    Hey Mark, I am new to the CNC community. I was looking at buying a C-Beam and was wondering if this build would be OK to use a laser diode down the road and alternate between them? And would I need to change out anything on the machine in order to do this i.e. boards, frame work etc;

Welcome to the awesome OpenBuilds community! Yes I see no reason why you could not attach a laser diode down the road if you would like to, in fact guys here do it all the time in that they have both diodes as well as mills on the same machine. Hope this helps and we look forward to your Build, please share.

@flyingDutchman Possibly be due to belt tension or possibly the steps/mm setting is slightly off. Even 0.05mm off makes a big difference.

Hi Mark, I'm just getting started with DIY CNC machines and love all the info here at Openbuilds. I want to build a machine similar to the Ox you did but I'll have to do it in increments. Do you think I could use Corian (a solid surface counter-top material) to make the plates, it's 1/2 inch thick, very sturdy and machines nicely. Thanks, I'm chompin at the bit to get started!

I'm converting the file to Grbl(mm) gcode format. I sometimes wonder if there is a problem with the format?

    Hi Alex,
I have used my Ox router on some small projects but I consistently get problems with more complicated ones. When attempting to route a Celtic Weave (from Aspire) I get slippage, apparently from 1 pass to the next, ie material is routed away where it should be retained.
    What could be happening?

Hi Mark, I'm a newbie, can you tell me how do I build from scratch and make sure I got all the part I need ?

Hi @RedGreen Welcome to the OpenBuilds club and to the world of CNC machines! You found the right place to start. Just pick a machine you would like to build and join in on the discussions on the Builds page (tab at the top of the build). There are lots of great folks ready to help you get up and running. Have fun :)

Hi Kyo. I want to build your Sphinx C Bream CNC with working area 120cm x 60cm . But I don't know how much is length I need to cut my C-Beam for the X & Y Axis , also the V Slot for the base. Need your advice :)
    1. Kyo
A 1m x 1m build would get you very close to this and only requires you to double each length. To get 1.2m you would need a 1.5m y-axis and lead screw availability is then a concern.

Hi, thanks for your reply. For 1M x 1M C beam, what is the machine working area?
      Nov 7, 2017
    3. blue25
Because the availability for C Beam in my country is low.

    Hi Gray,

I just joined Openbuilds and on my first scurry around the site your name popped up strait away. Given that we're both in Dorset I thought it rude for me not to say hello.

I joined basically as I figured it was time to set too and build a CNC and a 3D printer and this site seems to be right up my street.
