    Does openbuikds have sales ever?
Im trying to do this as cheap as possible. All I need is gantry and mounts. May get some 2040 too.

These are going to be 3d printers but would of liked a litte milling.

What type of frame wpuld I need for milling mounts and brackets?

    Thanks.

Yes. You just missed the Fathers Day sale but there are several others throughout the year. The best one is probably the Thanksgiving/Black Friday sale but that's a ways out.

    Hi Michael.
Im not sure. Ive been playing with things and thinking try build as many as I can with what I have. Or try build a mini mill so I can make the bits I need for these.

I will do a list of what I have but for now my problem is trapezoidals.
The machine shop sent me those that you can see but I dont think they are suitable for leadscrews but leadscrews are what I asked for. I will take a picture of the bigger ones as I think they might be ok there 12mm ish. Im not sure what nut would work but I have a bunch of t8x2 copper nuts. Just cant find trapezoidal cheap enough, I need a few 500mm lenghs and with the round bars its a good chunk so Im considering cnc options with ballscrew.

Id be happy if I could get a mini mill and 1 printer. Not to bothered about style as long as it is stable.

If I cant do cnc I may go for 4x printers and cut the extrusions down and buy a bunch or 250mm trapezoidal then print the mounts. I dont really want to do that either. I could grab some 2040 too.

Feel free to pm as Ive took quite alot on here.

I found out about msumi a little after I bought my 2020 I got it at ok price so I aint mad aha but I wish id waited and got C beam. But yea a 2040 makers pack would be nice. I did sign upto msumi but found that other place in EU easier to use, Im in UK btw. Im check them for C beam, sure msumi delivers anyway but something like 1 personal account or something oh na Im sure they wanted a business address or something. Cant remember to good but I did sign up. Il look when I see what you reommend.

Really thinking scrap 3d printer for now and get everything for mini mill to make the bits for the printer as aluminium scraps quite cheap.

Shall I grab 2080 for a bed and double up on it. Lock things down woth the T slot.

I just tried to log into misumi and wpuldnt let me in so I re registed woth a bs company. Will this effect me ordering as I dont got one lol but tbh it aint that cheap and na open builds is to expensive too, bang good has most there bits alot cheaper.

I just emailed metadis see if theyl sort a 2040 makers pack out.
    I have nema 23s and 4 nema 14s think i could squeeze 2 machines?

Im also at home to, I want to be able to make 80x80mm plates, nema mounts for my self. If it cant do that it can do the litte bits I want.

Thanks for that link its perfect. Maybe I should cut my bars down.

Not sure if I should order more extrusion as I like the ball screws built with extrusion.

What are my options for Z axis and alternatives to trapzoidal?

Same for 3d printer. Think Im change my plans a bit. Build 3d printer and mini mill.

Bare with me Michael, Im having a few situations right now.
Im post pics of every sing thing I have so we can come up woth a solid parts list. Will have to work all measurements out.

Not sure on bed size for 3d printer but thinking get mini mill made 1st so I can make the bits for 3d printer and maybe a bigger cnc but im limited as im at home.

I just grabbed nodmcu and mooching for a deal on 2 megas.

For now its getting measurements for frame and ordering.

Need openbuilds to do a makers pack of 2040.
2080 isnt much expensiver and im thinking us them for carriages aswell with wheels.

Any source for delrin wheels, the costs on these little things are lilling my motivation for this. £5 a wheel 18 wheels and there the cheapest crap ones. Il get my lath out and make some I think.

Will a bandsaw cut aluminium reasonabley? Might drill up my 1st plates and then make better ones aha.

Thanks for reply, yoir keeping me interested tbh. Will come back with all my parts list.

Take care and very grateful for your time im re look over that frame.

Yeah I think that frame is a good starting point and you could double up your extrusions and change the design a little bit or you could buy some 4545 extrusions from Ebay. You will need some decent size linear rods. There are also other ideas on Thingiverse for linear CNC guides. Keep in mind, that you make things good enough to start cutting, then use the CNC to upgrade itself with aluminum parts.

Those ball screws used in that build I shared with you are actually pretty cheap. Lookup RM1605 on Ebay. Don't order any screws until you figured out your machine dimensions though. This is where a free program like Sketchup would help you a lot.

    Thanks Mike
Yea im looking at them and have them watched but the lenghs are catching me out. I dont want to make a mistake. Id like to use it for taller things with laser or hotend ect too so height and Z axis options are my concern now.

I need to write some of this down ive literaly done all this off the top of my head and its starting to hurt now. Keep confusing my self. Im basicly finding what I want and hunting for who ever sells it the cheapest.

I need to make a plate maker like C beam.

    Mike,
Do you think I could grab a makers pack of 2040 4x1m lenghs, he will cut. And do actuator like them ones on openbuilds?

What you think as he got them quite cheap and I got my others off him. He cuts too.

What size for 3d printer 300x300x300 should I ask him to cut them?

He has 4x1m lenghs of T slot 5mm his saying £45. I doubt il find cheaper.

What sizes should I get him to cut?
How much bigger should my lead screws be to as im try get him to cut the 2040 a bit smaller then trapezoidal, Im thinking use t8x2 as I have bits to fit.
Just not sure what lenghs to get him to cut.

    Im thinking
    1m 2x500mm
    1m 2x350mm 2x150mm
    1m 4x250mm
    1m 5x200mm

I stuck on my phone and no broadbanned here so its hard for me to get things done I tried draw something up.

I can get 350mm T8x2 350mm £3 each so thinking the 2040 needs to be smaller to mount up.Im thinking use the 500mm as a Z post could we call it?

Think I could build 2 with these measurements or you could come up with something similar?

    Or
    1m 2x500mm Z
    1m 4x250mm X Y
    1m 5x200mm X Y
    1m 2x350 3x100 X Y

Do 2 XY tables and 2 Z post with 4x1m?

Need help with this. Im thinking use the T8 threw the middle of the extrusion to so there out the way. I will knock up some end caps with ABS untill I can make some.

Im really not sure on Z.
Im thinking do them actuator arms, as many as I can with a Z mounted on.

How many linear rails per axis?

    Whats size you saying Mike.

Will aluminium robs be ok mike?
Yea Im watching 400mm linears but thats for printer im crack on with a mini mill/plate maker/cnc lol.

Im need the shafts for Z aint I im thinking grab that 15pcs set for 20 off bangood 400mm ballscrew with 2 linear rails and the bits.

Im come back with pics I need to work out these measurements.

Id like to build any size that will make plates and a bigger one for 3d printing and wood/laser ect.

Do you have any way of cutting some plain aluminum stock? Something like 6mm thick? I think that table would work but if you look on the open build's store page under linear guides, there are more efficient methods. My first 3d printer used m5 threaded rod for the linear guides and it actually worked well.

The 4040 is 8mm slot thinking T8 might go in there and its double the size of 2040.

Im thinking 2040 and make some them tables for 3d printer aswell. But im sure we can do 2 machines XY table with a Z.

    Im.
Shall I use 1 linear bar with 1 trapezoidal on Z? maybe go 16mm too? thinking 400mm actuator for Z and have the tables at 300x300.

See how far can go with the extrusion.
Could get all 1m lenghs cut into 2x400 and 1x 200 but 400 look long with my moch up with 2020. 350 is good too but 300 looks best and can get 350mm trapezoidal. I can do a few but still need atleast 2 Zs of decent size thinking 400 for them.

Whats the deal woth the mdf bed on the C beam machine? Kind of doing a mini C beam with a mini mill kind of frame and the 4040 woud be good for that.

I have no way to cut no but can order aluminium similar size and they are happy to cut more or take cad file. In thinking get closest sizes.
