Hi Peter, when do you expect to finish laserweb software with the option for use with Marlin firmware? I downlaoded the laserweb 4 sw but then later read up and found that marlin is not currently supported. Can you provide me any leadtime as to when I could expect to see this come to fruition? Many thanks ben

Mary, Who won the naming contest? What was the winning name?
Name not yet revealed....oh the suspense! The controller has been through many rounds of upgrades and is now in the prototype phase. It is worth the wait!
I took tomorrow off of work to get this thing fired up, any suggestions?? please
secondly, the x axis home opposite of the endstop. That I cant really figure out as the plug only goes oneway and you had already put the connector on the motor wiring.
This is Pat Whalen, I bought a kit from you a couple of weeks ago. I have finally got it built. But I am having a couple of issues.
I sent you an email with a 5 second video of my z axis problem. I seems to not have enough horsepower. I tried loosening the idler and loosening the nylon inserts to no avail.
hello...sorry for my bad english, i was thinking about to build cnc miller cutter machine for steel-plate and carbon steel milling. with is the best openbuilds cnc machine for doing this work ?
Hello @Lulu121208 Steel plate milling is a job for an industrial machine. However you could always look into plasma's to cut the steel! and you can make a plasma machine pretty easily using OpenBuilds components. - http://www.openbuilds.com/?category=plasma-cutter-builds&id=305
Hi Kyo, I'm going to start building a modified Sphinx on Friday, all the parts should be here, and want to use your manual, but I find the font difficult to read. Would you mind giving me a version that I can edit and change the font? These tired old eyes need a plain font. Thanks, Tyler
Awesome, I look forward to seeing your build. I will see if I can find the Raw files for the manual ( easy to change font and recreate pdf). I believe I have deleted them already but will check my back up drive to be sure.
i,m not using a grbl shield just 28byj-48 steppers and mini servo motor any help will be appreciated
thanks on post processor as i'm qa newbie at this i find it daunting apart from rewriting the circuit board i'm trying to plot there must be a way to tell grbl every Z andZ-1 command (pen up Down etc)that Hpxx2 nc file can change to see M03 and M05 commands you have been a great help so far at least someone knows i trying
" there must be a way to tell grbl every Z andZ-1 command (pen up Down etc)that Hpxx2 nc file can change to see M03 and M05" Not sure if it can done in grbl but, since it is a text file you could always use a good text editor that can do replace and you should be able to replace all the Z to M.
This topic has grown into more of a discussion so please post your question here - http://www.openbuilds.com/forums/general-talk.40/
Use the help of the tens of thousands of great minds who frequent the OpenBuilds forums!
thanks mark im new at this i built dirks curcuit plotter won,t work so i use robbitin,s servo grbl fofr plotter but when i try to draw circuit file gcode nc uses z1 z-1 pen up pen down but grbl uses m03 m05 i dont want to use different software to change gcode any suggestions please and thanks
Hello @Rego it looks like you could create a post processor to convert the Z moves into m. But if like you say you don't want to change the gcode you best bet would be to ask for this support on the robbitin github - https://github.com/robottini/grbl-servo/issues
or ask how Dirks did his, my guess is that he did a pp from the nc file.
You could use a simple text replace editor as well and see if you can do a batch change of all instances of m3 an 5 to z moves essentially what the pp would do. Hope this helps. If not please ask this question on the general questions thread and someone will be happy to help - http://www.openbuilds.com/threads/open-build-parts-for-sale.9096/
Thanks mark at least there is a way around it
WHERE IS THE SOFTWARE, THAT MARK TALKS ABOUT, AND WHAT BOARD DOES HE USE.
why the YELLING? Mark is busy running this place, all the info is in the build. which I found in 1minute, he's using GRBL and a GRLB sheild. Cheers! http://www.openbuilds.com/builds/openbuilds-ox-cnc-machine.341/
Hello @Gary Caruso thank you for your help and @Dwa60 hope this helps you out. Have a look at the grbl panel control software here - http://www.openbuilds.com/threads/grbl-panel-control.3037/ as for cam there are many available options, but in my case I used Sketchup and the SketchUcam plugin.
To Mark Carew. Sir I was watching your great video on how to build a CNC machine, the full one. You said that there is software on your site, I CAN not find it, could you help out, I also liked the drawing you had. My build is exactly like yours, I followed every thing, I had to watch the video 6 times, you said the type of board you are using but I could not hear what you said,
hi there i'm new at this need help can't get mini plotter to plot with pen z axis x and y steppers ok z axis is with mini servo
it using grbl .09 pin 11 on arduino controls servo suppose to print circuit board hpgl .nc file
Hello @Rego please ask these questions in this thread and see to see if we can get the help you need on your Build - http://www.openbuilds.com/threads/ask-grbl-cnc-questions-here.3000/page-19
Kyo, who can I consult with regarding a slightly modified version of your Sphinx: taller gantries, mount Z stepper on top of Z axis (no belt) and approximately 400mm x 400mm real work area? I'm not sure, for example, the best way to solidly connect the Z stepper to the screw. Great design and I can't wait to place the order and start milling! Thanks, Tyler
Hello Tyler, The members here on Openbuilds are a great resource to consult with regarding builds and build modifications. To mount the Z-axis stepper directly you will need a coupler and two aluminum spacers. To get 400mm x 400mm work area. Add roughly 100-125mm to each C-beam and lead screw length.
I've decided to build a 700mm wide (X axis) by 620mm (footprint) Sphinx. I figure that it's better to have the width in case I want to do longer pieces. I'll call it the KYO 700! Thanks again for all your hard work on this. I'm buying the taller gantry from Chris and it should all come together in a week or two as parts roll in. I'm very excited, my first CNC.
You should note that Chris is also making a wider C-beam end plate that has 4 mounting holes for the motor. I personally hate the idea of it hanging off of 2. It just doesn't look right. Ha!
Jedicut moved to a new website with a new domain name, a new design, a new forum, new contents well organized : https://www.jedicut.com :)
I have a C-Beam what power supply should I use 12v or 24v
Hello Chrisyln, I would suggest the 24V it will charge the stepper coils quickly and work well for you on the C-Beam Machine.
Pourrais-tu répondre à ma question sur ton équipement? http://www.openbuilds.com/threads/ooznest-ox-cnc-machine.1661/page-17
For the best assistance, please post your questions at the link you have provided.
I buy XPro v3 controller and I have problem. On the smoth corners tweak(shake) when run slow. I can't run fast because I made some of carbon fibre and small shranks. Any ideas?
I run my OX like
Hello Wiselaw, to be honest the best place to ask this question would be in the support forum for the xPRO - http://www.openbuilds.com/threads/cnc-xpro-driver.487/page-23 So everyone who may need help with this can find the answer as well. Thank you for understanding.
Any news on the development of the COMPLETE CNC CONTROLLER PACKAGE?
Prototyping and testing a underway! Can't wait till you see this!
Up and cutting!
Can you tell us about your experience with STB4100 card? Thanks.
What do you want to know exactly?
It works more or less OK.
The only thing that I remember is axis slave not working in Mach3.
Estoy empezando.... me encanta este tema..
Welcome to OpenBuilds!
Hope and trust you are doing OK.
I have recently purchased a 2.2kW spindle and VFD.
With particular interest in the 40 x 40 V-Slot: Is there any chance you might expand the range to include a 40 x 80 V-Slot ?
Would the standard 80 x 20 and or C-beam be strong enough to cope with the stresses generated by the 2.2 kW spindle?
There is the 40x80 C-Beam . From what I can find the 2.2 weighs about 8kg (17lbs) so that is beefy for sure and more then likely overkill for the type of work we do here. But you can never how too much power :D My suggestion is to use 2 C-Beams in parallel on the X axis using the 2 C-Beam XL plates mounted together with a plate for mounting the Z axis.
Really though with a modular system like V-Slot your best is to scour the forum and talk to the guys about ideas they may have as well. All the best with your build. Looking forward to seeing it.
I have just finished wiring up my CNC and my Z axis is reversed , can this be put right using the software
or will I have to change the wires
Swapping the wires should reverse the motor. If this does not work for you then please ask in the Xpro support thread here - http://openbuilds.com/threads/cnc-xpro-driver.487/page-22
Hope this helps.
thanks that helped, no have my z axis working as it should
Glad to be a help, Have fun with your Build! :)
SIR: I have watched your videos 4, I love them. I am trying to build one like yours, I have the rails, motors, what I would like to get is the NUT BLOCKs, I can not find them.
Hello @DWA please have at the first 3 items here.
Hope this helps and all the best with your build!
Thank you MaryD
